Pack Bed Scrubbers

When removing sparingly soluble gases from a gas, such as sulphur dioxide (SO2) or hydrogen sulphide (H2S), the contact area between the gas and the scrubbing liquid must be increased. Allowing the gas and liquid to come into contact with the counter currently through a randomly packed bed is one of the most convenient ways to accomplish this. For this purpose, numerous designs of packaging are commercially available. Packed bed towers are also employed to obtain high removal efficiency for highly soluble gases. Gaseous pollutants such as acetic acid, alkaline fume, ammonia, amines, chlorine, chromic acid, cyanide, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, and sulphuric acid mist can be successfully eliminated by packed bed towers with 99.5% effectiveness.
